The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework that outlines the standards for learning, development, and care for children from birth to 5 years old. As an Ofsted-registered childminder, I follow the EYFS to ensure your child receives the best start in life.
The framework is built around seven key areas of learning and development, which guide all activities and care provided in my setting:
Literacy
Children develop essential reading and writing skills through play.
Daily opportunities for early writing, drawing, and storytelling to capture their experiences.
Story sessions, rhymes, and poems foster a love of books and literacy.
Our books offers a wide range of materials, encouraging children to explore and handle books with confidence.

Personal, Social, & Emotional Development
I provide a safe, supportive environment where children can build confidence and positive relationships.
Children develop social skills, learn about right and wrong, and understand the value of friendships.
Activities respect and celebrate each child’s culture, promoting self-esteem and inclusion.
We encourage independence with tasks like washing hands, dressing, and turn-taking.
Older children act as role models, helping younger ones feel supported.
Communication & Language
Creating a language-rich environment to develop communication skills.
Activities like music, dance, rhymes, and role play enhance vocabulary and confidence.
Children express themselves and improve language skills through social interaction and creative storytelling.

Physical Development
Children gain confidence in movement and coordination through diverse activities.
Indoor and outdoor activities include dance, action rhymes, and games to improve spatial awareness and gross motor skills.
Fine motor skills are nurtured with activities like threading, playdough, and using pens, paintbrushes, and construction toys.
Children learn about the benefits of physical activity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Children explore the world around them, sparking curiosity and discovery.
Opportunities to observe nature, people, and everyday objects.
Hands-on activities like sand play, gardening, and exploring historical artifacts.
Learning is supported through tools like magnifiers, maps, and books, as well as outings and discussions about different cultures and beliefs
Understanding the World

Children are encouraged to express their creativity and imagination.
Activities include painting, dancing, role play, and music-making with various media and materials.
Opportunities to experiment with colors, shapes, and storytelling foster creativity and confidence.
Expressive Arts & Design
Mathematics
Children build a strong foundation in early math through engaging activities.
Sorting, matching, sequencing, and counting are introduced in both structured and playful ways.
Songs, games, and books help children grasp mathematical concepts like size, shape, and simple addition.
Activities promote familiarity with numbers and everyday problem- solving skills.
